The event marked the first joint initiative following the announcement last September that the two organisations would be working together to the mutual benefit of their members in examinations, teacher education and training. The fully subscribed event, Invitation to Dance, provided members of both organisations the opportunity to attend free observational classes and teaching workshops in musical theatre, modern jazz, ballet and tap. The established Faculty comprised of Denise Skinner IDTA Fellow and Examiner, Ian Meeson IDTA Fellow, teacher and lecturer, Karen Berry BSc (Desig), BA Hons, LISTD, RAD Dip, Phil Winston, IDTA Fellow, Director and Examiner and Theatre Council Vice Chairman 2005-2007 and Jennifer McCrow, IDTA Fellow and Examiner who informatively discussed and with the help of their very able students, demonstrated the merits of each syllabus. Karen Berry’s discussion on the RAD syllabus was accompanied by staff pianist Martin Cleave Dip RCM. The day brought together members of each organisation for the first time and was well received by the participants. Luke Rittner, RAD Chief Executive commented; “Today has been enormously successful, we came together to celebrate dance and to cement the new association between our two organisations, and I think that you will all agree that it is clear how much we can achieve together. I hope that this is the first of many such events”
"Today has been a great success, and has been pleasing to see Members of both organisations mixing together. I am very proud of what the IDTA has to offer, and I know Luke is equally proud of what the RAD has to offer, together I know we will make a difference." In September 2006, the RAD and the IDTA announced that both organisations would formally grant teachers of the respective organisation the opportunity to enter candidates for its examinations thereby ensuring that both organisations recognise the right of qualified teachers to enter candidates for examinations of either awarding body.
Carl Alan Awards 2007 - The Oscars of the World of Dance The Carl-Alan Awards were first introduced in 1953 by Eric Morley and were named after the joint Chairmen of Mecca Carl Heimann and Alan Fairley. The International Dance Teachers' Association was proud to present the 2007 Carl Alan Awards on Sunday 4th February, in conjunction with the IDTA President’s Dinner and Dance. The IDTA were pleased that all three sections of the awards were presented: Freestyle Stage/Theatre Ballroom, Latin & Sequence There are five categories of awards in each section. Performer's Award Teacher's Award Competitive Coach/Choreography Award Outstanding Services to Dance Award Lifetime Achievement Award All recognised dance associations or societies were invited to make nominations in all categories and each association or society was invited to send a delegate to represent them on each of the selection committees. The IDTA remained independent in the selection process. From the many nominations received, the selection committees were asked to short-list up to three nominees in each category. To be nominated for a Carl Alan Award by your peers reflects the nominee's considerable contribution to the world of dance. IDTA would like to congratulate all the nominees; unfortunately there can only be one winner in each category. The IDTA would like to thank actress and film star Miss Shirley Anne Field for hosting the evening. Click here for the list of winners. Press Release: RAD and IDTA working together for the future of dance The Royal Academy of Dance (RAD) and the International Dance Teachers' Association (IDTA) announced today, 26th September 2006, that from 1st October 2006, the two organisations would embark on a process of working together to the mutual benefit of their members in both teacher education and training and examinations. The RAD and the IDTA will formally grant teachers of the respective organisation the opportunity to enter candidates for its examinations, thereby ensuring that both organisations recognise the right of qualified teachers to enter candidates for the examinations of either awarding body. RAD and IDTA qualifications and membership categories are structured quite differently. Under the new agreement RAD teachers will be admitted to membership of the IDTA at Associate level and will be entitled to use the letters AIDTA. IDTA teachers qualified in one of the four IDTA core theatre branch subjects will be admitted into membership of the RAD in a specially created category as a Mutually Recognised Teacher and will be entitled to state that they are an RAD Mutually Recognised Teacher in publicity materials. The International Dance Teachers' Association and the Royal Academy of Dance are two of the world's leading dance education, training and examining bodies. They have between them over 20,000 members worldwide and they examine over half a million candidates internationally each year. In an increasingly challenging and competitive professional and commercial environment this new collaboration can only strengthen the two organisations to the benefit of both their members and the wider dance community.
