Pre-Associate Part 1 & Part 2

Depending on your age and experience, you may be required to hold an IDTA Pre-Associate Part 1 & 2 qualification before taking an Associate teaching qualification. The examination is designed to ensure candidates have a thorough knowledge and understanding of the Association’s grade and awards syllabus and technique and have the skills necessary to assist a qualified teacher.

How will you be assessed?

The Pre-Associate Part 1 & 2 are practical examinations conducted by an IDTA appointed Examiner. The examination may be taken in two parts or as one exam. Candidates are required to produce a portfolio for the IDTA Examiner to review in advance of the examination. Candidates will be asked to demonstrate and discuss with the Examiner all aspects of the Pre-Associate syllabus. Technical aspects of the examination are from the Theatre Dance Syllabus, Grades & Medals.

Prerequisites

Dependng on age and experience, candidates for the Pre-Associate examination may be required to hold an Intermediate Performer Award in the appropriate genre. Minimum age for Part 1 is 16 years old. Minimum age for Part 2 is 17 years old. Full details are given in the appropriate "Technique of Theatre Dance Book" available from the IDTA shop.

Future progression

Following completion of Pre-Associate Part 1 & 2, the next level of professional teaching is Associate.

Fees

Candidates will be entered for the IDTA Pre-Associate examinations by their dance teacher using the Pre-Associate Application Form. Examination fees are paid via the dance teacher. Training fees are set by the teacher.

Membership status

Candidates who have successfully passed the Pre-Associate Part 1 & Part 2 examinations will be invited to join the IDTA as Provisional Members. This membership status does not allow Provisional members to enter candidates for examinations or to attend the AGM. Provisional members receive a copy of the Dance International magazine and may attend IDTA national and regional seminars at a discounted entry fee to assist with their continued professional development.

Examination syllabi, technical information and resources

The examination syllabi for the Pre-Associate Part 1 & 2 examinations are listed in the appropriate "Technique of Theatre Dance Book". The candidate will require a copy of the "Theatre Dance Syllabus, Grades and Medals" and also access to the set music CDs for the appropriate genre.
