Blackpool Tower turns purple for the International Dance Teachers’ Association

On Friday 8th July 2022, Blackpool Tower turned purple for the International Dance Teachers’ Association (IDTA) members as they arrived for their three day Dance Congress, held at the Winter Gardens new conference centre.

The IDTA is a leading dance qualifications awarding body and membership association for professional dance teachers and gathers members every year for their annual congress, bringing dance teachers together for lectures, business support meetings and social events.

At 9.30pm the crowds gathered and IDTA President, Anna Henrich- Jones, accompanied by two glamourous showgirls, lead the countdown and pushed the plunger to reveal the purple lights, along with the message ‘Welcome IDTA’.

Blackpool Tower remained IDTA purple for the duration of the weekend and could be seen as far as the Isle of Man. This was arranged in conjunction with Blackpool Council.

Elizabeth Murphy, CEO of the IDTA said:

‘It was a huge privilege for the IDTA to switch on the Blackpool Tower lights. A great way to mark the start of the IDTA’s annual Congress return to Blackpool and increase our links to the iconic home of dance. Blackpool hosts the IDTA Nationwide competitions and Miss Dance & Dance Master Final, which raise so much for the IDTA Benevolent Fund. A fabulous way to welcome our members to Blackpool.’
