The IDTA Freestyle Faculty would like to confirm that the Freestyle & Street Scholarships will now be held on the Saturday 2nd September 2023 at the Midlands Arts Centre in Birmingham.

 

Freestyle

The Music for all solos will be selected by the faculty.

Fast Dance music track will be approx. 160-170bpm.

Slow dance music track will be provided in advance of the competition. We are finalising the music tracks and these will follow by email next week.

 

Street

For the solo performance:

Music for Class A and B will be provided by the Freestyle Faculty.

Separate track information for Class A and Class B will be provided in advance of the competition. We are finalising the music tracks and these will follow by email next week.

 

Paperwork for teachers and nominated students will be sent out next week and will need to be returned to the office by the 1st June 2023.

 

Unfortunately the Freestyle Seminar will not be able to go ahead this year but this will be back in 2024.

Freestyle Scholarships 2023

VENUE: MIDLANDS ARTS CENTRE, CANNON HILL PARK, BIRMINGHAM, B12 9QH

Sholarships start 9.00am

Candidates for the IDTA Freestyle Scholarships are initially nominated by the Association’s Examiners when taking a Freestyle Solo medal test at Star 1 level or above, through a qualified teacher. Candidates must obtain a mark of at least 90% and show outstanding / exceptional potential.

Awards are granted in the following age groups for Freestyle Solo performances:
Class A – up to 13 years inc
Class B – 14 – 15 years inc.
Class C – 16 – 17 years inc.
Class D – 18 years and over

The Scholarships will be held annually in the Spring. Nominations are taken from 1 March to 28/29 February the following year.

Winners will receive a trophy and a cheque prize to further their dance training.

Certificates are awarded to every nominee.

An additional trophy and voucher towards further training to be presented by Anna Jones for the nominees in each age group showing outstanding potential

Format of Scholarships

All nominees will participate in a class (Class A, Class B, Class C or Class D depending on age) after a warm up.

Approximately 12 semi finalists from each age group will be selected to give a solo performance, followed by a repeat solo performance by approximately 6 finalists.

Solo performances will be in age groups and will be 20 seconds in length, 40 seconds in Slow Dance, choreographed by teacher. (Must be based on Freestyle rather than Street Based.)

Judges will select the winner from each age group.

Solo spot for Class D – 40 secs – Freestyle Slow Dance
