A nationwide survey carried out for Dance Proms, a new dance festival taking place at the Royal Albert Hall on Sunday 13th November, reveals that just over 1 in 5 British adults (21%) have become more interested in dancing as a result of TV dance shows such as Strictly Come Dancing.
Roughly the same number of adults (1 in 5 – 20%) currently participate in some form of dance - covering a huge range of styles from ballet to ballroom and street to salsa - and just over 1 in 8 adults (13%) have taken part in a dance class in the last five years.
The survey was conducted by YouGov, who interviewed 2058 UK adults (aged 18+) between 28th - 31st October 2011.

The first step to becoming a Zumba Instructor is to attend one of the Zumba Workshops. To see the dates and locations of upcoming Zumba Workshops you can visit the Workshops page of www.Zumba.com or on my website www.zumbauk.co.uk . There are no pre-requisites to becoming a Zumba Instructor, although a fitness or dance background is always a plus! Anybody 18 years or older may attend a Zumba Workshop. Certain allowances are made for younger participants.
Once you have taken the one-day Zumba Basic Workshop you are allowed to teach Zumba, use the “Zumba” name in your class title, and call yourself a Zumba Instructor. Any other use of the Zumba name or logo must be approved by the Zumba Corporate office. Zumba Fitness is a registered trademark of Zumba Fitness, LLC, which holds copyright ownership on all Zumba related material and use of name and logo. Anyone who teaches Zumba without having a current Certificate of Completion would be in violation of trademark and copyright laws.
After the Zumba workshop, you can start teaching whenever you feel ready. Every Zumba Instructor is an independent contractor so you will set up your own schedule, rates, terms, agreements, etc. with whichever facilities you choose. The Zumba Workshop will teach you about Zumba and how to teach and create Zumba routines for a Zumba class. The movement section and the included DVDs and music CD provide plenty of ideas to get you started. Zumba’s continuing education program provides a ZIN newsletter, marketing materials, choreography, music, and a network of instructors, which will also provide an enormous amount of help to get you started. Joining this program is optional. Other Zumba workshops are planning to be introduced to the UK in the New Year. These include Zumba Kids, Zumba Gold and Zumba Aqua. Zumba Basics One is a pre-requisite for all other Zumba workshops.
A Zumba certificate is valid for one year. As with any reputable occupation, a professional in any industry is expected to keep up-to-date on industry knowledge and stay fresh with their industry skills. Zumba Fitness wants its instructors to be the best in the industry and maintain a high level of expertise and proficiency. To help instructors sustain this status, Zumba Fitness provides numerous opportunities for continuing education and requires all Zumba Instructors to update their skills annually in order to renew their instructor certificate. For more information contact
Will be held on Sunday 7 February at the Lancaster London, (formerly the Royal Lancaster Hotel). The Ballroom Seminar will be held in the Nine Kings Ballroom and the Theatre Seminar in the Westbourne Suite during the day, (doors open to members from 8.45 am).
The President’s Dinner and Dance including the presentation of the Carl Alan Awards 2010 for Ballroom, Theatre and Freestyle will be held in the Nine Kings Ballroom, starting with a reception at 6.00 pm before dinner at 6.30pm.

Sky To Hold Nationwide Auditions For New Dance Series
Sky One is to trawl the UK for dancers to take part in a major new entertainment show called Just Dance.
The series is the first commission from Duncan Gray, the satellite broadcaster’s new commissioning editor for entertainment at Sky One, Sky Two and Sky Three.
Just Dance will begin with a series of nationwide auditions for dancers of all styles and sizes, which will take place in front of live audiences.
From the auditions, a panel will select dancers to take part in a series of studio shows, where they will compete for the chance to progress to the live final and be crowned champion by the viewing public.
Gray said: "Britain is a country obsessed with dancing - 4.8 million Britain’s regularly participate in dance classes and it’s the country’s fastest growing hobby. Just Dance will capture the public’s imagination and appeal to dance enthusiasts of all ages."
Executive producer Karen Smith added that the show would throw "out the rule book" and added: "Everyone can compete in the competition, irrespective of age, style or combination of dancers."
Auditions are scheduled for September 2009. A host and panel will be announced shortly.
Just Dance is being made jointly by Princess Productions and Shine TV.

IDTA Showcase Gala 2009
The IDTA Showcase Gala is a biennial event. The first performance took place in 1989 at the Mermaid Theatre. The Gala gives children and teenagers the opportunity to audition for a show and if successful perform on a major theatre stage. At the same time the performers are able to help children who are less fortunate. The organisers select charities, which support children so that the performers can identify with the people they are helping. Performances have been staged at The Royalty, The Mermaid and Her Majesty’s theatres.
The proceeds from the Galas have assisted The Children’s Society, ChildLine, The Children’s Trust, Cystic Fibrosis Holiday Fund for Children, Great Ormond Street Hospital, the Stars Organisation supporting action for people with cerebral palsy and the Starlight Children’s Foundation. The IDTA Benevolent Fund also benefits from the Showcase Gala. Supporters of the event include; Dame Beryl Grey, Bonny Langford, Rosemary Ford, Debbie McGee, Derek Hartley, Simon Parkin, EMI, Deborah Bull.
