Updates for January 2023
From January 2023, the following changes have been made to the level 4 Diploma:
Recommended First Aid and Safeguarding certification
The Candidate Handbook now includes a recommendation that candidates obtain a First Aid and Safeguarding certification prior to taking up employment as a teacher. This change has been made to reflect the guidance for out of school settings published by the Department for Education in October 2020. This can be found at https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/keeping-children-safe-in-out-of-school-settings-code-of-practice
Further guidance for Unit 1 legislation
The Candidate Handbook now includes further clarification and guidance around the legislation sections of Unit 1 for candidates, teachers and examiners.
A checklist for Unit 1 requirements is also included in the presentation for Unit 1 and to download.
Changes to Unit 3 – Teaching Practice
The requirement for 10 teaching logs has been replaced by a case study which candidates will submit prior to each Unit 3 they take in each genre.
Information about the case study is also included in the presentation for Unit 3 and the template can be downloaded here:
We strongly advise you to read through the candidate specification and guidance handbook.
The candidate handbook provides lots of helpful information about the qualification including information about the registration and examination process, guidance on completing and submitting your portfolio and what to expect in the examination.
